The German manufacturer introduced the third gen Mercedes C-Class in India, code named the W205. The current Mercedes C-Class on sale made a global debut in early 2014 and was launched on the domestic front later that year. However, now Mercedes-Benz is all set to give the car a midlife update.

On the outside, new C-Class is expected to wear a reworked bumper with more elegant lines. The front fascia is expected to carry the same avant-garde grille and the head lamp assembly carries tweaked day time running lights to suit the Mercedes-Benz family design. The side profile could carry a silhouette similar to the current car although the new car is expected to sit on a new set of designer alloy wheels. The rear end is expected to carry a more elegantly styled bumper to compliment the car’s appearance.

Inside the cabin, the feature list is likely to be carried over to the new car and it would boast of similar comforts which include a tablet-like screen, climate control, panoramic sunroof and the latest version of the COMAND infotainment system which has an integrated Garmin navigation system with 3D-visualisation and gets a new interface design with a touchpad, as standard. The rear seat passengers could get individual temperature zones and the rear seats are expected to get a 60:40 split with a boot space of 480 litres. The updated Mercedes C-Class is expected to have leather for the seats, dashboard, steering wheel and the gear knob as its predecessor.

The updated C-class is expected to be based on the same Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform and the power source is expected to be the same as well. The petrol variant will be powered by the 2.0-litre engine which produces 181bhp. However, the diesel variant will be powered by a 2.2-litre engine with two states of tune – 167bhp and 201bhp. Both the engines will be mated to the nine-speed ‘G-TRONIC’ gearbox.

The updated C-Class will compete against the other luxury sedans in the same segment like the BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE, Audi A4 and the Volvo S60.
