In an interview on India Movies, Karan Johar says he fears his mom’s anger over his interviews with stars in Season 3 of his talk show, Koffee with Karan.

I don’t know about his mom’s anger, but he certainly invited a dad’s wrath. Rishi Kapoor did not take kindly to his son’s former girlfriends rating him as un-sexy and dowdy on national TV. He said they suffered a case of “sour grapes” and should concentrate on their careers instead of taking potshots at his son.

Now Sonam’s upset since whatever she said on the show, was said in “good humour”. There’s more. Mid-day says Deepika and Sonam are out of Ranbir’s first world tour slated for July 2011. Join the dots here.

Expect more such potshots on the show. Promo videos of episodes show KJo asking stars “controversial” questions (what is the one thing Kareena would ask Priyanka to change about her, is Saif “turned on” by his lady love).

So basically KJo has set out with a clear-cut unabashed agenda to push for TRPs this season. Which is all very well, except that does it have to be so darn boring and scripted? And what’s with the silly giggle? Looks like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has rubbed off on him a little bit more than on Abhishek Bachchan. He didn’t giggle even once on the show. Not related, but it makes me wonder if the rest of the Bachchan family have imbibed Aishwarya’s giggle. I can’t see the staid Jaya Bachchan giggling anytime anywhere. Bachchan Sr perhaps. If you do manage to sit through KBC this season, you may have the answer.

Back to KJo’s telly bytes (bites?). His show is scripted, right down to every giggle. Even if the cues are on that Samsung tablet, it’s still scripted. And boring.

But there’s an easy solution.

Bollywood and of course KJo himself believes in looking to Hollywood for “inspiration” and remakes. Take a good, hard look at The Ellen DeGeneres show. The show is in its 8th season and has earned 31 Daytime Emmy Awards. There’s a real mix – from Hollywood’s A-list – to great fun and audience participation.

Besides Ellen Degeneres has oodles of warmth and goodwill. Guests on her show don’t end up in pouts of anger or get thrown out of contracts to “avenge” their words.

KJo play those Ellen tapes and get your act together. Else if mom doesn’t slap you, someone else will.
