Coming soon New 800cc car from Maruti
Maruti Suzuki, which had bid adieu to its most successful model ever, the iconic M800, is all set to make a grand re-entry into the A segment with a new car, a report claimed Wednesday.
To be pitched alongside its current best seller, the Alto, the new kid on the block will be developed in-house and will, among other things, have a clean engine.
Maruti had pulled out of the mini car space in 13 cities last April when it stopped selling its bread & butter model M800 due to the onset of the stricter BS IV emission norms.
According to a car magazine, the new car will sport the same 796 cc engine which currently powers the Alto.
Although based on the Alto platform, the new car will boast of all-new interiors and more cabin space.
To be priced atleast Rs 40,000 less than the Alto, India’s biggest manufacturer is aiming to regain control in the sub-Rs 2 lakh segment by taking on Ratan Tata’s dream car, the Nano.
Interestingly, before deciding on the new car, Maruti had planned and worked on a ‘cost down’ version of Alto, the report claimed.
With Maruti announcing its intentions and many others keen on entering it, the A segment is sure to see some scintillating action in the coming years.
