Bihar Assembly sinks to new low Oppn MLA flings slipper at Speaker

The suspension of MLAs comes a day after the Opposition MLAs created ruckus in the House over Patna High Court order for a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the welfare schemes.

The Bihar State Assembly Tuesday saw Opposition MLAs overturning desks and chairs, breaking microphones and stalling proceedings during a debate on a CAG report on alleged financial irregularities.

Apparently taking a cue from the Karnataka Opposition members, at least 80 Opposition MLAs and MLCs yesterday spent the night in the well of the two Houses of the State Legislature demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“We will not lift the agitation till this corrupt government resigns”, RJD deputy leader in the Assembly Shakeel Ahmad Khan told reporters.

He alleged that the agitating members in the two Houses were not provided food in the night and breakfast this morning.

“It reflects that the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has lost his mental balance following his involvement in the scandal and is desperately trying to gag the opposition”, Khan alleged.

He said that the agitation in both the Houses would continue till the demand was met.

Chairman TK Jha had yesterday suspended 14 opposition MLCs for the day following unruly scenes in the House after the Opposition demanded resignation of the BJP-JD(U) government on the CAG report that highlighted alleged irregularities of Rs 11,412 crore in execution of development and welfare schemes between 2002-03 and 2007-08.
